Rome

The similarities between the ancient Roman Republic and the current United States of America have been a topic of debate and controversy for many years. I felt that the article that is linked below, does an excellent job of summarizing the economic segment of the argument. What is truly frightening however, is that the article was written in 1990.     "The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled,public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance."
