The similarities between the ancient Roman Republic and the current United States of America have been a topic of debate and controversy for many years. I felt that the article that is linked below, does an excellent job of summarizing the economic segment of the argument. What is truly frightening however, is that the article was written in 1990. Our debt was a quaint $3 trillion then. Read it and weep.
